Nuovi standard tethered, lightweighting, recycle. Queste le direttrici SACMI a Interpack (fiera Düsseldorf 4-10 maggio 2023). Con un obiettivo: offrire ai propri clienti vantaggi immediati e tangibili cogliendo le opportunità della transizione verde.
Come lo facciamo
SACMI è l’unica azienda al mondo che governa ogni fase del processo produttivo in ambito rigid packaging, dalla capsula alla preforma, sino al soffiaggio ed all’offerta di linee complete di imbottigliamento.
Nella produzione delle capsule, SACMI ha anticipato la Direttiva Ue che impone, dal 2024, l’adozione del nuovo standard tethered.
Con un’offerta completa di capsule e un metodo profittevole – la realizzazione del taglio in post-processinge il controllo qualità integrato – SACMI risponde a tutte le esigenze del mercato, guidando la transizione.
Nuovi standard ultra-light
Tra gli altri, il packaging è tra i settori industriali che più ha lavorato, negli ultimi anni, per migliorare le proprie performance sotto l’aspetto della sostenibilità. I dati restituiscono una riduzione media del peso del contenitore e della capsula anche superiore al 50% dal 2010.
Oggi, l’ultima evoluzione si chiama 26/22 mm (con la variante 25/22), ma anche i nuovi colli alleggeriti 29/25 mm, un insieme di standard sui quali il Laboratorio SACMI ha sviluppato soluzioni ready-to-market capaci di ridurre il consumo di plastica, sul sistema collo+capsula, anche di oltre il 30%.
Tra le sfide, quella di affrontare questo switch mantenendo al centro la migliore esperienza di consumo per il cliente. Un esempio, le nuove capsule per collo GME 30.40 “tethered friendly” ma, anche le capsule per acqua 26/22 ad altezza maggiorata, con risparmi notevoli di materie prime.
Circularity challenge
In ottica 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recyle) la filiera del PET è quella oggi più matura per impostare un approccio di economia circolare, dal riciclo della resina al contenitore finito per uso alimentare. Ecco perché SACMI ha da tempo implementato sulla propria gamma di presse ad iniezione per preforme la possibilità di lavorare sino al 50% di PET sotto forma di flakes riciclati, sino al 75% negli ultimi sviluppi presentati al mercato.
Cosa significa? Offrire ai clienti una risposta tecnologica all’altezza in uno scenario di mercato dove la transizione ecologica è necessaria, mentre gli strumenti per realizzarla – e la stessa esistenza di una filiera completa del riciclo – sono fattori in divenire.
Il servizio al cliente
Anche in Europa, faro mondiale della transizione ecologica nel settore, i produttori si devono misurare con uno scenario VUCA – volatility, uncertainess, complexity, ambiguity – tra stringenti scelte normative e la necessità di restare, comunque, competitivi di fronte alla concorrenza globale.
La risposta di SACMI non è solo tecnologica ma ha a che fare, anzitutto, con il servizio di assistenza e supporto al cliente, dall’idea di prodotto alle tecnologie per realizzarlo, dal revamping/efficientamento dell’esistente all’implementazione di nuovi standard produttivi, processi, materie prime. Interpack 2023: SACMI leads Europe’s transition to green rigid packaging.
SACMI’s goal: to provide customers with profitable ‘green transition’ solutions, such as the ready-to-market products and technologies on show in Düsseldorf. That means solutions for tethered caps, yet also new internationally certified lightweight neck standards and excellent opportunities on the PET ‘circularity’ front.
New tethered standards, lightweighting and recycling will be SACMI’s focal points at Interpack (Düsseldorf trade fair 4-10 May 2023), with one clear goal: to provide customers with immediate, tangible benefits by seizing green transition opportunities.
How we achieve that
SACMI is the only company in the world to provide solutions for every stage of rigid packaging production, from cap to preform, from stretch-blow molding to complete bottling lines.
On the cap manufacturing front, SACMI has already implemented the EU Directive that requires adoption of the new tethered standard from 2024 onwards.
With a complete range of caps and profitable methods – such as post-process slitting and integrated quality control – SACMI is ready to respond to market requirements and guide the transition.
New ultra-light standards
In recent years, few industries have focused as sharply on sustainability as packaging has. As the data clearly shows, container and cap weights have fallen by 50% or more since 2010.
The latest developments in this area include the 26/22 mm (with the 25/22 variant) and the new lightened 29/25 mm necks, a set of standards on which the SACMI Laboratory has developed ready-to-market solutions that can cut neck+cap plastic consumption by 30% or more.
There are, of course, challenges, such as successfully making this switch while continuing to ensure an optimal consumer experience. Some examples? The new ‘tethered-friendly’ caps for GME 30.40 necks and the 26/22 caps for water which combine increased height with considerable raw material savings.
The circularity challenge
From a 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) perspective, the PET supply chain is the one best suited to a circular economy approach, from resin recycling to finished containers for food use. That’s why SACMI has long since ensured its preform injection presses are able to process up to 50% PET in recycled flake form, a figure that can rise to 75% with the latest developments being introduced.
The outcome: the ability to offer customers an adequate technological response on markets where the ecological transition is a must, at a time when the tools to achieve it – and the existence of a complete recycling chain – are still in the making.
Customer service
Europe may lead the global packaging industry’s drive towards sustainability, yet producers are nevertheless forced to operate in a ‘VUCA’ (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) environment that places them between strict regulatory frameworks and the need to remain, in any case, competitive on global markets.
